I can easily understand how this piece was so hard to write. The good thing is, the wait was totally worth it. I really liked this one. It didn't leave me with a huge amount of indescribable feelings like the previous ones. I do love to end up with mix feeling about stuff I read or watch, but I also love this simplicity. In a sense, it's a lot more direct, but sweeter too. These are Ryo's feelings, how he views life and relationships, leaving home, getting to know Shige, falling for him. Before, I had the idea that it was a lot more quickly, the comments were always about how fast their relationship evolved, and it did go fast, yes, but it had a pace, one that's *believable*. People DO fall in love like this, with specific encounters and conversations and gestures (the scene waiting for the taxi was *beautiful*!), and when people fall in love like this, it can go two ways, into forever, or a very ugly break up. What Ryo hoped for on one hand, and what Shige saw coming and actually happened on the other.
What makes me wonder is the lack of mention of alcohol in Ryo's musing. He talks about sleeping around and waking up in unfamiliar places, how that became his vice, his addiction. But there's a lot of drinking going around too, and if there's something that's the perfect companion for lonely people, that's alcohol. I wonder how much Ryo drank before Shige, if he always drank himself stupid before going to bed with someone...
Also, because you know by now how Yamapi's part affects me in this story, I'm curious if Ryo realizes that, for someone so incredibly lonely, it's not that common to trust someone to always be there when he needs him. He's not an open guy, I don't see him talking with Pi about Shige easily, or talking much about feelings in general, or about whatever went on in his head *before* Shige, but he trusts Pi WILL answer his phone and WILL pick him up wherever he might be after a one night stand. He certainly doesn't seem to appreciate that helping hand for what it is, but I wonder if he *knows* he trusts Pi to do that for him every single time.
You wrote this chapter very well. I liked every scene for what they are and what they bring in the development of the relationship. I was delighted to see Massu and Tegoshi in this, even if their participation was small (I went all "yay, Massu~" when I saw his name and the mention of his dimples XD). The banter between Shige and Ryo the day after they met was very fun and it gives enough to understand why Ryo got interested in Shige, why he looked for him afterward. The conversation over the phone at two in the morning made me remember conversations *I* have had at that hour with people I care about. And, as I mentioned before, the taxi scene was just, well, perfect. For them AND for the story.
Take your time writing, it's always better not to rush good things. If you take your time eating, you enjoy the food more, right? same goes for books and stories like this ^o^ (of course, that's the case if the food is good in the first place, just as this story is =P)
