Your post helps tremendously and is really insightful and interesting! It's strange that they would accept you if you're outrageously and obviously gay (Hard Gay?! Who's not even gay!), but not if you're a normal homosexual person. Perhaps they're so fixed in their perceptions of people that once you step out of the stereotype, they can't accept it.
It's pretty sad to know how much they keep their sexuality under wraps though. Is the discrimination and pressure in Japan so terrible? It's ridiculous that a company would fire you just for being gay...as though it's any of their business, really *rolls eyes* It's such a contradictory and pressurized society, really not very fun to live in if you happen to deviate from the regular path =.=
I've not heard of the whole not-mixing-social-circles thing before... so a guy can have three different groups of friends and none of the groups ever knowing squat about each other? What is the reason for keeping their social circles so separate?
And thank you so much for bothering to write all that. Nothing like hearing first-hand observations and experiences :D it's the kind of knowledge / research that I always want to do for any fic I write and so your post is like a treasure to me LOL.
