Even though society is well aware of what goes on behind closed doors in exclusive places. Doesn't Japan have one of the world's biggest gay club/bar areas in Tokyo?
Kato has a bunch of people to be intimate with on the physical level but he's built a wall a mile high and thick around himself emotionally. There's just too much in the way for him even if he does manage to break that wall down.
